Euthanasia is usually a serious topic but doesn't have to be. In this darkly humorous mystery-romance, Oliver is in love with model trains, reptiles, and two women in his neighborhood, in that order. As a law-abiding citizen, he has never before contemplated taking another's life, but he's convinced it's time for his grandpa to depart from the earth. The octogenarian has Alzheimer's, and his quality of life is abysmal. One of Oliver's crushes, Dolores, is also plotting to finish off the old man with her easy access to him in his nursing home. Their lethal methods, while not overly cruel, are definitely unusual. At the museum where he works, Oliver designs additions to the huge model train layout to expose his dastardly deed and placate his conscience. He's confident that no one will catch on to the clues he leaves. Ultimately, he's confronted with decisions about whether to forgive and fall in love with the person who rats him out.
