"Off The Bench" is a fast-paced crime thriller. It's hero, Martin Bronk, a hard-boiled cynic-wannabe who's really a loving father and empathetic private eye, is one of the more interesting and three-dimensional p.i. heroes to appear in this genre since Dave Robicheaux. He is a Chicagoan through and through, and as we follow him along his investigative and private life trails through the cultural candy-store that is Chicago, we feel as if we're natives of the Windy City, too.Easy to read, but literate, "Off The Bench" is great escapist fun. I look forward to reading Mr. Kreisman's next offering.
An engaging, exciting, well-written murder mystery

Bruce Kreisman really captured me with this book. It is exciting from page one. The characters are believable and likeable or unlikeable depending on the intention. The ending is plausible and clever and fits with the story. I read the book in two nights and didn't want to go to sleep the first night. There are many Chicago references to the city, the suburbs, the sports teams, and central buildings and figures. These references make the book more fun and make the scenes easy to picture. I highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially Chicago natives or residents.
