"We can find humor in the transposition of words in a sentence or in the transposition of letters in a word. Some well-used phrases are constructed so as to mean one thing, but when analyzed actually say just the opposite. Other phrases have mutated over years of use, and then misuse, until the misuse becomes a meaningless statement with an assumed value. The now-assumed value actually did fit the original phrase, but with repetitive misuse it now makes little to no practical sense ..."Given where I spent my childhood, my Mom and Dad being frugal people, and being taught to be as self-sufficient as possible brought many off by just one type questions to my mind. For example: during harvest time, we put up hay, Mom put up fruit and vegetables, and looking at me she would occasionally ask, 'Why do I have to put up with so much?'"Mother did a lot of canning at harvest time. I do not recall her ever using cans, but she surely used a lot of glass jars to can the fruit and veggies."
