Of Small and Clumsy Heroes is a story about the struggles of finding and developing your personality. The book's key message is that every difference can be a strength, showing how important it is to be yourself. Charlie and his Mama lived in a town of bears deep in the forest called Honeywood. The family of two found an abandoned foal in the woods, which they decided to adopt. Charlie and his sibling Sammy, the young horse, experienced challenges throughout the book, helping them develop their personalities. Of Small and Clumsy Heroes uses the gender-neutral pronouns they/them for Sammy's character. The earlier your child learns how to use gender-inclusive language, the easier it will be for them to accept others' pronouns in the future. A wonderful artist from Georgia named Beth Leak and I, an international student from Austria, have realized this children's book project highlighting inclusion and finding one's identity. The book uses they/them as Sammy's pronouns so children can become familiar with inclusive language.
