`Of No Country" is a rather slim anthology of the works of the famed, Victorian explorer and rake, Sir Richard Burton. It covers a broad range of his eclectic writings and translations - fifteen different works in all, plus excerpts from Lady Burton's biography of her husband. At only 203 pages, though, most of the excerpted passages are necessarily brief. It is a serviceable introduction to Burton, with collected excerpts from some volumes that are fairly obscure as well as his more famous material, but offers no more than a teasing taste of his genius. Included in this anthology are excerpts from the following works: `The Life of Captain Sir Richard F. Burton' (by Isabel Burton) `Personal Narrative of a Pilgrimage to El-Mehinah and Meccah' `Stone Talk' `First Footsteps in East Africa' `The Lake Regions of Central Africa' `The City of the Saints' `Two Trips to Gorilla Land' `A Mission to Gelele, King of Dahome' `The Highlands of Brazil' `Letters From the Battle-fields of Paraguay' `Wandering In Three Continents' `Il Pentamerone' `The Kama Sutra' `The Kasidah' `The Arabian Nights' Theo Logos
