Of Light and Its Absence is author Jared Hugh Bohland's third book of poetry and lyrics, and quite likely the most intimate and personal work yet written. It is an incredibly honest look at the dichotomy of light and darkness, love and hate, good and evil. Jared brings out the stark contrast between these opposing forces through two independent works: the first being a collection of actual love letters made of poetry and lyrics written to his wife during a period of physical seperation due to work, and the second being a collection of actual nightmares and night terrors experienced by Jared himself throughout his lifetime. Playing off the title of the book, Jared attempts to use his real life experiences to provide a window into the reality that light, love, and goodness are real; and that darkness, hate, and evil are merely their absence. When we realize this truth, we can begin to appreciate their presence and seek them out even further.
