The Earth gets violently disrupted. A space shuttle (written when there were space shuttles) survives, and the survivors, through a mysterious intervention, are sent back in time to correct the problems if they are correctable.
I must say it is fun to watch, and we could go on forever, or at least five years. But no! They did not even try to wrap it up. Showtime never ordered more episodes. Sony pulled the plug when Showtime didn’t commit to more episodes. The writers had planned multiple seasons, so they never built a “just in case” finale.
I am glad I didn't watch this the first time around, as it abruptly halts, leaving all kinds of loose ends.
Why was the Earth destroyed?
How the Sentients’ plan fits together.
Whether the crew actually prevents the apocalypse.
Lots of personal stories also have no end.
Still knowing this, it is still worth watching for what there is of the story and personal interactions. There is still room to ask what you would do in the situation. You may find yourself kibitzing.
There is always an opportunity for a wrap-up movie, even if it has different actors.
