He was first elected to the house in the Canadian federal election, 1997 from the riding of Lotbini re. He was re-elected in the Canadian federal election, 2000 in the riding of Lotbini re-L' rable and again in the Canadian federal election, 2004 from the riding of Lotbini re-Chutes-de-la-Chaudi re. Desrochers served as the Bloc's critic on issues concerning Latin America and Africa, and was also the critic for Regional Development, Rural Development, Public Accounts, the Treasury Board, and Infrastructure. Desrochers was defeated in the 2006 election by Conservative Jacques Gourde.
