Okay, I like the old, old Harlequin Romances because I think they have more plot, and substance to the story. Although I have to trade off for an alpha male who is older, mean, cold, or just plain abusive, this story is an exception. This Late Great Silhouette Romance from 1985 Arlene James, is set in Las Vegas, NV., and it involves a young man Ray Eugene(Gene)Brannick has a very real problem, besides being cast out from his family. A family he is trying to prove he is worthy of their love, he has illness that he believes dictates his life. Then he meets Destry Rose Cordell and his life takes on a new meaning. But it doesn't mean he is willing to share his problems with her or her 10 siblings. But Destry won't settle for less than all, and Gene won't give in at all. From the back of the book: 'The customer is always right...Destry repeated to herself. The Brannick Royal Hotel was one of her largest accounts, and when the new manager showed up in her printing office demanding stationery, Destry was inclined to go out of her way to keep him happy. But Gene Brannick made that hard. Love, on his terms, was all taking and no giving. Destry decided to teach him by example-her big, loving family was eager to help. Gene's problems were more serious than selfishness, but they were noting that love, Italian style, couldn't solve.'
