Stuart Finley lives in a pristine world of antiquities. At 28, he is the youngest assistant curator at the Metropolitan Museum. Stuart feels safe and a bit smug amid the chaos of New York City until he meets Claire, a denizen of the SoHo art scene, who lures Stuart into her world, where art is a matter of opinion. Equal parts social satire, intrigue, and romance, this book is a piercing look at modern life.
Benabib's book is very entertaining and extremely well-written. I read it in 1996 in hardcover and lent my copy to a friend. I wanted to reread it but found it out of print. What a shame! If you can get your hands on a copy, give it a read.
