Objectivist ethics and mental breakdown

I'm an avid consumer of hardboiled fiction - the pulpier, the better. As an enthusiast of this genre, I especially enjoy Raymond Chandler's run of stories featuring the quintessential world-weary gumshoe, Philip Marlowe - The Big Sleep, in particular.
