Obesity and associated metabolic anomaly among interstate commercial drivers in Jabi Park, Abuja

In Nigeria, the occurrence and complications of obesity like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, and arthritis are increasing. Aim: To develop intervention strategies for prevention of obesity, its metabolic anomaly and the promotion of well-being at personal, community and workplace to reduce mortality. Methods: A survey of 398 long-distance commercial drivers in Abuja was conducted using systematic sampling technique and a semi-structured questionnaire. Blood pressure, height, weight, fasting cholesterol and blood glucose were determined. Obesity was defined as Body Mass Index (BMI) >=30 Kg/m2.
