Oberlander: The Pastor Consoles

In a place called Simplicity, a pastor consoles the troubled with a few practiced phrases and envelopes containing $1,000. One fine day, he dies in an unusually cruel accident, buried in an avalanche of garbage. Carl Oberlander, one who has been consoled, insists, along with fellow deputy Tommy Sigala, on investigating the death. They've also got the matter of an odd occurrence involving recycling, blackjack and two girls named April and May. Carl's personal tragedy is never far from his thoughts and keep him awake most nights. His next-door neighbor, Emily, a sixth grade teacher, is a handy shoulder to lean on, perhaps too handy. It's a story of values, the price to be put on an old man's life, the stuff saved in storage and the trash thrown to the curb as garbage.
