Oakland Place: Gracious Living in Buffalo

Just one block long, Oakland Place is one of the Buffalo's grandest avenues. Having never been a through street, it remained insulated from the radical changes that transformed the city during the 20th century. This helped the traditions of good and gracious living by the city's leading citizens to last longer here than in most other areas of the city. It also led to the development of a close-knit community of decision-makers who greatly influenced many aspects of Buffalo for decades. The introduction summarizes the development of the street and how it changed over time, and describes how the residents lived. This is followed by a house-by-house photographic essay featuring the contemporary exterior and some interior features of each home, as well as an historical photograph for context, accompanied by the architectural and social history of each gracious home.
