I own the 1993 (second edition) and have found it to be invaluable in teaching beginning students about the nursing process. I especially like the inclusion of historical information, use of functional health patterns, and summary of the nursing process itself. The definition of each diagnosis and overview statements provide good background information. The case studies and care plans are excellent learning tools. References cited after each diagnosis provide additional resources and rationales. The addition of NIC and NOC and evidence-based information in the new edition along with updated diagnoses would make this book a valuable addition to any nurse's reference library.
