Oh how the horizontal violence in nursing continues! This book and Laura's magazine, "The Journal of Nurse Empowerment" were the first voices to cry out against the system that was becoming rapidly unhealthy and unsafe for patients. It was the first call to arms when our nursing organizations and "leaders" were calling them "loose cannons" because they dared to speak out against hospitals and physicians and suggest "insane and irrational" things like nurse-patient safety ratios (which the national orgs NOW support, how history rewrites itself). It was shameful and frustrating to see nursing attack itself with horizontal violence instead of tackling the real issue of a monstrous system that is highly profitable and hardly healthy for our country. THIS is what has set our healthcare system and nursing back and continues today. Going to reread my copy today!
