A new antiviral called Null is released under emergency authorization. It suppresses immune overreaction and stops the virus spreading through major cities. The treatment works. Hospitals stabilize and infection rates drop.

As Mercer and Reyes uncover the final stage of the program, they learn that Null was only the first step.
