The world faces two threats to its existence: climate change and nuclear apocalypse. Urgent action is needed on both. Addressing the first issue will impose large economic costs and lifestyle adjustments, while addressing the second will result in economic benefits with no lifestyle consequences. Those who refuse to confront climate change are criticized for their spirit of denial; those who downplay the nuclear issue are lauded as realists. While it is necessary to take action as soon as possible to prevent total imbalance, climate change will not cause a catastrophe for a few decades. On the other hand, a nuclear catastrophe could destroy us at any moment, although, if we are lucky, it could be delayed another 60 years.
