Did Elliot die? Where is his next novel?

Upon picking this up, and knowing that Elliot hasn't written anything since he wrote it, in 1997, I thought, "okay, it probably isn't any good, and he was a one hit wonder with Cold, Cold Heart." That is not the case. While not as good as his near-perfect first novel, this one is still way above most other entries out there. It is exciting, well-written and emotionally resonant. Once again, Elliot shows an ability to paint vivid, thrilling scenes (the nightclub attack), and create a dangerous villain with a perfect touch of dark, psychotic humor (the Cuban hitman who looks forward to polishing up his skills on a couple of would-be muggers, etc.) The most important question is, where the hell is Elliot, and why haven't we heard from him in 7 years? I suspect he may be dead, and I will try to find out.

I loved this book

After reading Cold, Cold Heart I thought this book could not possibly be better yet I have to admit I loved it even more. I was totally into the story and could not put the book down. Any one who loves the kind of book you have to "just keep reading" will love this. I can't wait until the next James Elliott novel. Hurry please.

Critical Review

Nowhere to Hide, written by James Elliot, is a real page-turner. This book was intended for mature readers because there are a lot of graphic scenes, foul language, and sexual scenes. Even though this book is a mystery/fiction, James Elliot wrote the book not to glamorize New York; but rather, wrote this book to show the real New York. The New York where mafias are present, murders are frequent, and prostitution is common. James Elliot researched the NYPD and it is very obvious through his writing that his details on the police in New York are very accurate. Research is the foundation of a good book. If research had not been done it would be real hard for the readers to relate to the things that are occurring in the book. This is a great book to read because the words draw the reader in and makes the reader seem like he/she is hovering over the characters and witnessing the events live in person. Because Elliot is so descriptive, pictures are constantly running through the reader¡¯s head, making a unique movie in the mind of each reader. The setting is also very good and descriptive. The setting allowed me to picture the surroundings to the extent that I even pictured the alleys when garbage and homeless people on the sides. The language the author uses is very critical for the book to be considered good. The language in this book allows even the stupidest of readers to understand what he is trying to say. The way he does this is through the surrounding text of confusing words. The setting and mood also helps the reader think what the author is trying to say. The length of the entire novel was a weakness I encountered in this book. This was a problem because I constantly wanted to read on but I could not find the time to read and the length of the novel was not helping me finish and find out what happens next. Because of this, I was always thinking about the book during my everyday activities and anticipating what would happen next and kept guessing whether or not the main character was going to die. But I think the length of the book was necessary to give the readers the feeling and constant wondering the book gives. I recommend this book to anyone (over the age of 14) to read this book if they like constant action, mystery and also a side of sex. Children under the age of 14 should not read this book because of the sex. I don¡¯t think it is appropriate for them.

Wow, is an understatement

Hats off to James Elliott, again. After reading his first novel I did not think it was possible to top, I was wrong. The characters are likeable and the plot is filled with suspense. This would make for a great movie, but could do the book no justice. I felt as if I were on a rollercoaster ride with the ups and downs in the search for Niki. As it powerfully begins to unravel some predictable and unpredictable events. The love story plot was nicely and seductively written. The police procedures and knowledge are remarkable written.
