Stephen Hull runs away from an overbearing at to the Solomon Islands to sign on board The Dawn Marie, A converted trawler owned by Ted Simms a war buddy of his late father. The Dawn Marie is homeported at Nowhere Island, A rubber plantation owned by Sir Edward Aubrey. The only person Stephen's age is Sir Edward's niece, Beth. Just as Stephen starts to adjust to life in the South Pacific, the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor. Now faced with the threat of invasion the inhabitants of Nowhere Island have to decide between fighting for the Island or fleeing to safety in the Dawn Marie.
