Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep

By Stephen E. Lambeth

The tiny sliver of a new moon failed to cast the slightest illumination on the shadowy figure that glided like a wraith on silent feet. Another of the close-knit band of jewel thieves had done his work well. They would have easy access to the beautiful Portofino condo and the priceless jewels inside as the owners lay in drugged unconsciousness. Interpol investigators were increasingly frustrated by the gang whose exploits had earned them the media label "sleep bandits." They had executed a string of burglaries with military-type precision. But dark clouds were forming on the horizon for Anton Blackbourne and his team. Soon, betrayed trusts and a dangerous copy-cat gang of break-in artists would begin to erode-and ultimately threaten to disintegrate-all of the master thief's well-laid plans. Then fate stepped in. Soon it would be determined whether the hunted would be compelled to join the hunters.
