A clever twist on the First Family's dog hunt, this is the story of two little girls, living in the White House, who post a sign on the lawn to kick off their search for the perfect dog. Soon the... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This book by two obviously accomplished authors really shines. My 4 year old son, who's been campaigning himself for either a dog or a cat, loved it. Each dog is different and the girls have to make decisions about which one would be the best White House dog. Great story, very nice illustrations. Highly recommended!
Mother who loves dogs, particularly dogs in The White House

What little kid doesn't fantasize about being the daughter or son of the President? And, what kid worth his/her salt, doesn't want a dog companion to share all the adventures in life? Now Hiring: White House Dog is a perfect combo of those fantasies: sisters (who greatly resemble Obama's girls) take matters into their own hands when their dad, the President, fails to deliver on his promise to get them a dog. We get to see the sisters roaming the great house, interviewing doggy candidates for the job of First Pooch, dressing up for state dinners, and finally negotiating a doggie settlement that would impress Congress. You and your kids will love this glimpse at family life in the White House. "It's a real home," your kids will likely say. "With real kids...who play...just like me..." They'll also be learning about government and current events. Adorable drawings too. I want a sequel...yesterday...
really fun - not your average kids book

I'm a mom of two kids and really appreciate a book that doesn't have the same rhymes as every other kid book. It also has a good mix of rhyming and story telling, new vocabulary (but not too tricky), and unique dog personalities that make it fun to read in different voices. Our 3 year old picks this one every time. Highly recommend.
Great book to discuss characters with children

I have bought this book to read to my 4 years old grandson. He is at the age when he makes/brakes friendships all the time, and he often says things like `I like her/him' or `I don't like him/her'. I was looking for a book or movie to get him into discussion about what qualities he may like and or not like in friends. In this book each dog has its own character, and the characters are described in terms of what dogs will do or will not do, not what they are. In this way, I am sure my grandson will understand differences between the dogs and their characters. And dogs' characters are described kind of like short-songs, with rhymes, which is easier to read or even sing. Looking forward to see how my grandson likes it!
Fun and timely children's book!

My kids (preschool and grade school) love hearing about the First Family, so I bought them this book today. They loved it! The text is easy to follow and the illustrations are engaging. Although the book is labeled as "fiction," it's easy to see who inspired the clever sisters in the story. I would recommend this book for children who are dog lovers, First Family-watchers or just those who enjoy a fun story!
