Private investigator Michael Thorne has been hired by the famous artist Zacarias to find his former muse, model, and prot?g?, Jennifer Sylvain, who he believes stole his priceless heirloom jewelry. Thorne finds her living in Albuquerque with no evidence that she has the money such jewelry would have brought her. Attracted to her, he nevertheless does his job and tells Zacarias where she is. The same day, someone starts shooting at her. Feeling responsible for putting her life in danger, Michael takes her on as a client, asking only for one of her paintings as payment. The trail leads them to Tucson and to Zacarias's home. The more the two are together, the more they care for each other, but Jennifer has issues with trust that Michael, who has already lied to her, must overcome as he solves the puzzle of the missing jewelry and the threat on her life.
