NOTHING TO FEAR is the story of nine-year-old Diana Dewey growing up in the 1950's town of Carpenter Mills. Diana and her friends encounter everyday adventures and scrapes, including snakes, tea parties, a dead dog, and the neighborhood bully. Animals abound in the neighborhood and provide Diana with comfort when things are worrisome. Her mom and dad's marriage is tested when an acquaintance of her mom's seems to be more. And when a mysterious arsonist threatens the tranquility of her hometown, Diana's relationships with her friends and family become strained. In spite of being afraid of everything and worried that her parents will get a divorce, Diana faces her problems head-on and struggles to overcome her fears by determining to catch the arsonist herself. Diana's anchor is her Mamaw, who is always there for her with advice and hot biscuits when she needs some stability. After the arson is solved, another mystery presents itself, and Diana has to decide if she can trust her Papaw's advice as she and her friends investigate.
