This book is wonderful. Unlike most, it doesn’t seek to paint in broad strokes, or make grand declarations on the injustice of it all. This is one of the only books that I've read for university that I've truly loved. Demick has a writing style that makes you want to read more. Getting to know the North Korean defectors is both rewarding and painful, since you can feel their sorrow and pain. I already told my husband he has to read this book lol.

This book was amazing. It brought tears, and anger when living the lives of the people in the book. North korea is a strange place. I recommend people read this book to walk a mile in the shoes of the captives in N. Korean's.
