Jack Kennedy is going to kill himself. The 40-year-old accountant from Arizona is ordered to New York City, where he assumes he'll face embezzlement charges. Rather than face humiliation and prison, he withdraws $25,000 from the bank to send to his wife before he commits suicide. But it's Sept. 11, 2001 and when terrorists attack the World Trade Center, Kennedy finds a twisted opportunity to live.He throws his wallet into the rubble, and with the $25,000, he takes a bus to Pennsylvania, gets a new ID and buys a car. As the nation mourns, he drives west until he finally stops in a small Wyoming town, finds a $40-a-day job at a pizza parlor and begins to put down new roots. But it isn't so easy to leave behind one life and begin another, especially when you didn't plan it and face unexpected obstacles.
