Bernard Randal McCalister the third was filthy rich, incredibly successful and had left a trail of broken hearts that reached around the globe several times. Alina didn't find any of that very impressive. She'd turned him down more than once and never given it a second thought. When he looked at her with that brooding look he was so famous for, it reminded her of the way a cat looks when he's playing with a mouse .... and she didn't appreciate it. Whatever he was dreaming up in that head of his, he could forget it. She had no intention of going along with any of his plans, and he wasn't going to persuade her otherwise. If she'd had her way she'd have nothing to do with the man. Instead, here she was stuck with him on his private island, miles away from anywhere and with no way of leaving for at least a week. This was all so bloody frustrating. She'd never wanted this assignment in the first place. When Gerald had insisted, she'd known she didn't really have much choice. She needed to keep him happy since he was the one who would be deciding on her promotion, but honestly, there were tons of other women in the office who would have loved the opportunity. Why did he have to pick her? When she'd said that to him, he'd just laughed and told her she'd have to be careful. He figured she was the most sensible of the women who worked for him, but Bear was very smooth and very used to getting his way. If she didn't watch herself she'd end up in his bed. She'd looked at him in disbelief. Did he really think she was so naive'. There was nothing about that man that appealed to her in any way and that wasn't likely to change anytime soon. Her fall for him? Not bloody likely. But the one thing you can count on in Life is change. Nothing ever stays the way it is for long. Everything can change in an instant, in ways that you could never possibly imagine, and the next three months were going to completely change Alina's life. Change her opinion of him, change what was important to her, change what she realized she really wanted. But handling so much change all at once was a big challenge. Would she be up for it? Only time would tell.
