It has been confirmed that approximately 45 million american find themselves caring for a family member or friend contending with illness or impairment. Not Alone is the product of Noonan's... This description may be from another edition of this product.
My parents are not in the best of health. My Mom has been diagnosed with Parkinson's. My Dad has had PET Scans/Fusion Scans of his lungs. He had surgery for colon cancer 3 years ago this month. The surgeon felt that it was in early stages and let Dad decide whether or not to do radiation/chemo treatments. He opted to not do them. I gave my Dad a copy of this book and have one for myself. It is very good. I haven't had a chance to read much of it, but I'm very impressed with the writer's expressing her feelings concerning her husband's illness and how she copes. Also, giving the readers insight into her husband's feelings, etc., is helpful.
Courageous, strong-willed, loving view of life

Knowing Nell & Bob has been one of the joys of my life. This book is not a traditional devotional, but also Nell's honest, open, loving memoir of her walk with Bob through increasingly difficult years. Both are delightful people. I am a caregiver, and have read great quantities of literature in this field. I wholeheartedly endorse Nell's book. Tuesdays with Morrie was a greatly acclaimed volume, that deals with some of the same issues. Nell's book though, is not a journal of someone who makes visits once a week, it is a window into the life of a devoted spouse, and her daily 24 X 7 interaction with a man she loves, who is slowly being taken away from her. And she shares her frustrations, her daily trials, and above all, her ability to each day find joy and meaning. "Not Alone" - a great book!!!
A soothing cup of tea for the caregiver

As one who has been a caregiver and one who supports caregivers as a Stephen Minister, I found this book relevant for all caregivers. The author is honest about her feelings but shows how her relationship with God through scripture and prayer gives her direction and encouragement daily.I liked her mention of the value of a support group, encouragement from and for others and the importance of staying connected to the world when your world becomes home. I have recommended & given this book to many already. It is a perfect gift to give to a caregiver when you want to do something and don't know what it can be. I am thankful Nell used her gift to share her story through this great devotional book.
A book for everyone

I am not a caregiver described within the pages of this book. I found, however, the stories to be so universal they transcend any one definition. Mrs. Noonan allows the reader to glimpse inside a world that is not only fraught with adversity, but also full of passion and love of simply living to see the next sunrise. Her beautiful prose places the reader deep inside a well of understanding and gives a lifeline to climb back out again. This book is not designed towards any one hardship. It is about a journey one takes with the people they love. It is about laughter and tears. It is about anger and hope. It is about loneliness and support. But most of all, it is about love and the walk people take together. Without hesitation, I recommend this book to all who read these words.
Exceptional Meditation Book

My daughter gave me this book and asked me to see what I thought. I did not need to get very far into it, when I was recommending it to others, especially caregiver friends. While I am not a caregiver, the individual meditations gives one the feeling of peace and encouragement to keep going on our individual paths in life. The book does not need to be read as a whole but when one has a minute or needs a minute of peace, just open to a page and read. I recommend Not Alone to everyone who would just like to slow down a bit and enjoy living each day for what it brings.
