Reviewed by Ana Rubio for Reader Views (4/06) Ellen Blend's career started fresh out of high school. A very intelligent, hard working woman, she pursued a career in the automobile industry. In the beginning Ellen finds the support she needs to develop her talent and potential and is encouraged by her boss to go back to school as a way to advance her career. I find the way Ellen believed in herself very admirable. She worked hard to earn every position in the company she worked for, in spite of all those who thought she was not capable of performing to the level assigned. Along the way, Ellen befriended some very intelligent and well intentioned friends who, when threatened with losing their positions to younger replacements, helped her to not give up without a fight. Ellen kept records of every step she made in her corporate climb which later helped in her fight against the company which she had devoted her life to. "Not About Money," helped me realize that, despite the numbers game played by most companies, you must balance keeping your integrity, and being a professional in the business world at the same time. It is critical to prevent the need to make a living hold you back from getting the respect that you rightfully deserve in the workplace. I would recommend "Not About Money" to young people in the beginning stages of their careers. Ellen Blend is a living example of a brave woman that despite all the walls she encountered was able to bring them down and finally get what she deserved.
