If you're going to be flying in Southeastern Alaska and have never done so, I would recommend this memoir as study material before you go. Very detailed, specifically on the weather and the challenge it presents to flight operations in this region.
An excellent adventure story

Gerry Bruder went to Alaska to be a newspaper reporter, but wound up flying floatplanes professionally for 10 years in the southeast corner of the state. This is his memoir of those years. Full of humor and pathos, it is one of my favorite aviation books. He is a skilled writer as well as pilot. I only have two complaints: I wish the book were longer,so it wasn't over so soon, and I wish the book was still in print, so I could give copies as gifts to my aviation-oriented friends. Appropriate for all, and recommended with no reservations.
