The real story on Iraq by a true hero

I have been in touch with Toby Nunn through his website ever since I saw "Bad Voodoo's War" on PBS. Toby is a real hero and a credit to our armed services. Here is what I told him when I finished Northern Disclosure: "I just finished reading your book. I have to say at some points I didn't want to stop reading. To me, it was a compelling story and you honor all of us by drawing back the curtain for a bit and letting us see who and what you are. You are a fantastic writer--and coming from an English teacher, that does mean something!" There is some rough language, which might make the book unsuited to kids. But this is the real story from a man who did his honest best for our country. I highly recommend this book!

I liked it

I enjoyed this book. I first discovered SFC Nunn on PBS Bad Voodoo Platoon. I was so impressed w/that documentary. What was interesting was seeing him on the TV and then reading his book from his first Iraq deployment. He is a Soldier's Soldier. Admiration and respect for his thinking and actions. A few places had some abrupt transfers and I was left wondering what happened w/out the rest of the story being finished to my satisfaction, but other than that I appreciated reading his adventures. Definitely some amusing tales. As with all war books there is knowledge and understanding to be had by reading them, and I feel like I learned a great deal. Discovered a new way to make coffee, very creative. I found some uncanny parallels from my own experiences w/our Troops that I found fascinating. I often have wondered what other Soldiers think when they read what has been written about them. Calling someone catfish face is not nice even affectionately. He has the patience of Jobe for taking on the task of being the first to train Iraqi's. Between dealing w/American B.S. and the Iraqi's I could not have done it and kept my sanity. Congratulations there. I loved the kitten story being an animal lover. And I am glad you whipped that guy's arse. Inshallah.
