Centuries from now the world is controlled by dictatorial local governments called Companies, They force people to become their slaves. From childbirth people are bred to do everything for The Company, even to kill. One of the most common jobs is to be a soldier. Once a Company soldier falls in battle they are left for dead. Sometimes those who remain alive escape and live off the land. They often form clans and live in peace unless The Company finds them. Ashlee's clan fights for their freedom and wins, only to split into two groups for survival. Her group goes south as told in the book Ashlee5986.
