North to Black

It was my ambition to travel across Europe by ship. The journey started by crossing the North Sea from Harwich to Amsterdam. Then up the Romantic Rhine pausing at some magnificent cities to reach the Main River.

The Rhine-Main-Danube canal allows shipping to travel across the summit level between the two river systems. It connects the Rhine that rises in Switzerland and flows into the North Sea to the Danube that rises in Germany and flows west into the Black Sea.

Then it was a descent of the Danube through nine countries and several major cities to the Black Sea. It was a fascinating journey through the scenery, cuisine, culture, and the history of the area to reach the Black Sea.
