In this modern-day religious fantasy, a teenager from Africa discovers his extraordinary gift to track down and vanquish malevolent, spirit-possessed creatures. After the tragic loss of his father, he is sent on an undertaking to find a malicious daimon (demon) that has entered this world. He's aided by an exiled religious recluse from the Shoshoni Indian tribe of Wyoming, who has the unique ability to read souls. The two journey to a mysterious small town in Northern California called Elysium. Here, they meet the town's enigmatic sheriff and contentious mayor.

In Elysium, the boundaries between heaven, hell, and earth are blurred, and our spirit-hunter and soul reader are warned; never go north, never go west. Only passersby through the town are to travel in one of the two directions, depending on the headline and accompanying story in the newspaper handed out by an old man on the main street.

The spirit-hunter and soul reader must find and vanquish the daimon that is directing errant persons north. If unsuccessful, the ramifications are greater than both realize.
