Normal?

Sam Ballantine is just trying to survive school and the 1970's in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. However, there are multiple people who do not want Sam to survive at all. Sam is different. But doesn't every high school student have differences, secrets, that they don't want anyone else to know about? Can she help it that she has the body of a boy but the mind of a girl? Sam just wants to fit in and be a normal teenage girl. She is attracted to James. But he just seems to drag her along. Why? What is his problem? Sam's friend Jen and her sister are her rock. She would not survive without them. Cross country and track also provide her a foundation of acceptance by her fellow athletes. But is it enough when some want to end her life just because she is not 'normal'? There are some sex scenes with same sex characters and violence which would not be appropriate for anyone under 13.
