The old couple was very hardworking Thanks to their diligent labor, the family lived a fairly prosperous life. Later, the elderly couple passed away. The two brothers only knew how to eat, drink, and enjoy themselves. Within just a few years, they had eaten through all their grain supplies. That year, on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, there was nothing left to eat at home. What could they do? The brothers went to the storage shed and found the empty grain jars. They gathered several types of grains and legumes, put them all together in a pot, and started cooking. When the porridge was ready, each brother took a bowl of the mixed grain porridge. They looked at each other, filled with deep regret The following year, the two brothers became hardworking again and eventually returned to a life of prosperity. From then on, every year on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, people would cook porridge made from a mixture of various grains and legumes. Because this day fell on the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, people called this porridge "Laba porridge," and the day itself became known as the Laba Festival. This book was produced by the Preschool Education Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Educational Sciences, bringing together renowned folklore experts, kindergarten teachers, and fine arts professionals. It is crafted from a child's perspective, featuring engaging storytelling and illustrations with distinctive Chinese characteristics, presented in the form of a picture book. To help children better understand the story, this set of books also provides free audio recordings of the story, narrated by a winner of the China Golden Mic Award for broadcasting and hosting. 从前有老两口带着两个儿子一起生活。老两口可勤快啦！在他们的辛勤劳作下，家里的日子过得还算富裕。后来，老两口去世了。这哥俩只知道吃喝玩乐，没几年就把粮食吃完了。这一年，到了腊月初八，家里实在没有什么可吃的了，怎么办呢？哥俩到仓库里找到原来盛粮食的缸，凑了几样五谷杂粮，都放在锅里煮了起来。煮好了，哥俩各盛了一碗五谷杂粮凑合起来的粥，你看看我，我看看你，后悔极了！第二年哥俩就勤快起来，终于又过上了好日子。从那以后，每逢腊月初八这一天，人们就吃用五谷杂粮混在一起做成的粥。因为这一天正是腊月初八，所以人们都叫这粥腊八粥。这一天也就成了腊八节。 本书由中国教育科学研究院学前教育研究中心组织著名民俗专家、幼儿园教师和美术工作者共同完成，从儿童的视角编写有情趣的故事、绘制有中国特色的图画，并以图画书的形式进行展现。为了帮助广大儿童理解故事内容，本套书还提供了免费故事朗读音频，由中国播音主持金话筒奖获得者朗读。
