He married his college sweetheart, Flo, in 1945. They have three children and five grandchildren. After retiring from the FBI in 1972, he spent the next ten years training law-enforcement officers for the University of Texas System. In 2000, he and his wife moved from Austin, Texas, to Ruidoso, New Mexico.
