This was a story about Catherine, a young vicar's daughter from a small town near Bath, who inherited a London house in a disreputable neighborhood, found herself involved in her tenants' interesting going-ons and also fell in love with one of them. It was written as a first-person tone, Ms. Smith did a wonderful job to display her characters, from main to sub-characters, even to street urchins; They were so unique and likable. The book was entertaining with romance, mystery, and humor. If I must pick a bone, then I would say some of the phrases or business expressions sounded a bit contemporary to me; also question about front cover of the book, don't ladies usually dress their hair up during the day and only let them down at the bed time? The lady's hair looked a bit cotemporary for the regency period.
