Dani Gavin has a decision to make. Should she fight to save one of her favorite students from expulsion or should she support her principal? She is the most liberal teacher in the school and she believes in her students, even when they screw up. The student and his buddy robbed an Uber driver at knifepoint, but the charges were dropped. Barry, a gay police detective, is determined to find her abductors and bring them to justice. His lonely life becomes intertwined with Dani's recovery and with her family's need for closure. Barry becomes a friend of the family as he hunts down the criminals who nearly destroyed the life of a popular teacher.
