Memorable story and pictures

While the language is simple, this delightful story within a story is compelling and fun. Early readers will enjoy the high-interest story, and the illustrations beautifully communicate aspects of the story in a visual way. This author/artist team is the same one responsible for the wonderful "Little Bear" books. If you're looking for something that celebrates childhood from the perspective of a child, this is a great start.

A great book for kids (especially if you have 2)

My mother originally read this book to my sister and I ages ago, so when I found out we were expecting, I was insistent that a copy would be on our shelf. While it doesn't have the attention getting rhymes of Dr. Seuss or the dreamy nature of a 'Once upon a time..' the story is engrossing and teaches a good lesson. I highly recommend a copy to any family, and doubly so to families with 2 children.

no fighting no biting no hitting no spitting

My mom used to read this story to my brother and me when we were being naughty. We both love the story. I recently bought a copy for my nieces and nephews (a couple of little alligators) and their mother reports that they're behavior has improved, and they have all memorized the entire book! I also work as a camp counselor during the summer, and tell the kids, "No fighting, no biting, no hitting, no spitting!" The second half of the rhyme was created by my co-counselor at the time. It always works. They always stop. :)

Blast from the Past

Now that I am 19 and in my second year of college, as an English major I must read alot of books. During my Children's Lit class we had to go over our fondest childhood books. This book was allways my favourite as a child and the only copy I had was begining to disintigrate so I had to get it! I allways loved the illustrations and the development of a story withing a story. The rivaling brother and sister reminded me so much of my own siblings. The thing I was looking forward to the most about reading it again is the ending. The copy I had as a child had the last few pages torn out, so it will be all new to me!
