Behind the scenes is Franklin, the New York scion who overcomes personal setbacks to land himself the job of president of the United States. He has serious choices to make about the role his country will play when war breaks out in Europe and allies ask for his help. Faced with dissent at home, he must reconcile personal ambition with responsible leadership while employing his political skills to nudge the U.S. in the direction he thinks best.
