Excellent Children’s Book!

8/20/25 - 8/20/25 No again? By Brenda Novak A children’s book dedicated to her grandchildren. I wished I had had this book when Ashley (great-niece) and most especially Zachary (gear-nephew & Godson) were growing up after my niece, Kimberly Ann passed away from colon cancer at age 37. Ashley was only 5, and Zachary was 3 but if you asked him he would correct you and say 3 1/2, Ain’t Lisa! When you loose your mommy, and all of sudden she is gone, as a child, their little world is turned upside down. How do you explain to a little one that mommy is never coming back to them. Ashley was pretty stoic, probably in shock and when he daddy would go away without them, she would fret that he would never come back again like mommy did and went away for good. Zachary was a handful-maybe boys are just naturally like that- I’m not sure not being a mother, just a Great-Aunt. But Zachary heard the words N-O means no quite a bit after mommy went away. This would have been an excellent book to explain to Zachary why it was always NO to him. It was so many times, a recording would have saved my vocal chords. Brenda is just the best writer and she captures the heart and soul of the topic she’s writing about. This is an excellent book to read to young children to help them understand we aren’t saying No to be mean, but to make sure they are safe! Zachary’s antics: Packing his backpack with all the loose change he had in the world. It was so much as he walking through the airport on their way to Disney, with daddy, Zachary literally fell over because the backpack was loaded with all his change! When told no he couldn’t bring the backpack pack - N-O means no! He threw himself down on the living room floor in a temper tantrum and cried his eyes out saying he wanted to go live with mommy! We had to explain to him that, that would mean Zachary would never ever come back, because where mommy was in heaven, there is no return to earth. He loved to pocket things when he was young, at The Boston Museum we took him to, he pocketed ricks from the gift shop. When we got back to the place we were staying, Ashley, was telling him that was not something he should do. Gramme over heard and went in to see what Zachary was doing, when she found out he had stolen the rocks, the next morning we returned to Boston Museum and my sister told the guard to make sure Zachary was punished. He returned the rocks, the guard sternly told him he could go to jail for stealing those rocks, but he said instead, he was banned from going to the Museum ever again. Meanwhile Ashley had cried and begged not to go to the museum to return the rocks, and she sat on the bench with me in tears because she was so embarrassed at what Zachary had done. Zachary continued to pocket things at the Dollar Tree in Cohoes - nonsense stuff he didn’t even know what to do with…until he grew out of it later in his childhood. There was no breaking this child! On the first day of pre-school after school let out he was on the bus to go to daycare. He took it upon himself as the bus was going down the hill to scream We are going to crash, we are out of control, we are going to go straight through daycare. Screaming at the top of his lungs and with such dramatic flair that he had all the other children in the bus crying hysterically because they thought it was going to happen. Needless to say, Zachary was sternly yelled at by the bus driver, and the daycare told his daddy and Zachary was not allowed to go out to diner or have any fun. He was strictly punished by daddy, unfortunately Ashley had to get the same sentence even though she didn’t have anything to do with it. She inherited Zachary’s punishment by virtue if being his sibling. Zachary always had to compete against big sissy and he knew how to get Ashley into tears by ripping books out of her hand that she was reading, or a toy. Ashley had many a times been not happy with her little brother! Zachary knew how to push butt
