struggling to do right

In this novel Soledad Santiago brings us closer to the world of a struggling ex-nun, who want to give the street kids a chance at a somewhat normal life. It is well written and the characters stay with you. The premise that the streets of New York are not the place to grow up is fairly evident from the beginning, and we are actually glad when some of the kids can go on and make something of themselves.
