Love on the Radio

Rory is a lovely, husky-voiced D.J. with a popular radio show whom this murder mystery author has fallen for, sight unseen. Although she's hot, she's cool to the idea of romance, given the betrayal of her ex-husband. Talk about revolutionary! She is inorgasmic, "can't get off," as she angrily tells Blake when he persists in coming on to her. Not one to resist a challenge, he tells her they can work through this together and he can't come until she does. Blake has his own emotional scars: his wife killed herself and he's blamed himself for it. She was an emotionally needy person who made him feel like an animal for wanting regular sex, so it's a wonder he believes he can rise to Rory's challenge. (pun intended :) This is one hot novel and engrossing, as Rory attracts the interest of a stalker in sultry New Orleans, where this story is set. The killer's already taken out some prostitutes and since Rory's show is dedicated to lovers, love songs and that kind of thing, the psycho has an ax--or a knife--to grind with her now. Since she doesn't really know Blake and murder (mystery) IS his business, Rory wonders if he might have some connection to these crimes. Blake's been experiencing writer's block, so he dedicates himself to researching Rory's sexual dysfunction and helping her through it. And trying to make sure she stays alive long enough to enjoy a long, satisfying sex life with him, of course. This is an excellent book and as I said, WAY ahead of its time in dealing with such a touchy subject. Karen Keast also wrote "Surprise of His Life," a sizzling older man/younger woman story; "Lavender Evening," another mysterious love story; and "Tender Silence," a widow hires a veteran to accompany her to Vietnam to claim her late husband's remains. She also writes under her real name: Sandra Canfield.
