WoW!

I can't believe it took me so long to find out about this book. The patterns are really cute. The finished garments fit very well and it's obvious they were designed by someone who has done a lot of knitting for kids. Plus, this is the only knitting book I've ever purchased in which I have not found any errors in the patterns -- unbelievable. I've even learned some interesting new techniques, which is a great bonus. If the cover doesn't float your boat, be sure you look inside. The patterns are spectacular, even the boys' patterns!

Great book, great ideas

This is one of my two favorite kids' knits books. Here are the reasons I like it: - Quick to knit, relatively easy patterns (this is an important one for me since they grow so fast). - Easy to follow instructions, with plenty of extra information on sizing, alterations, etc. - REALLY CUTE patterns. The pattern ideas are neat, they knit up quick and are still really wearable for an active kid. - Ideas for ways to alter the designs. - Patterns for OLDER KIDS - most pattern books are for the three and under crowd. It's as if kids just disappear until they can wear adult sizes. This is an excellent book for that older group. - Patterns for accessories like hats, scarves, and cute little "pals" that can be used as zipper pulls and can be knit by kids. - GREAT PATTERNS FOR BOYS!!! I have a boy. I need boy patterns. Enough said. This really is a neat book and has great ideas. The author is clearly passionate about the topic and has put a lot of effort into creating a wonderful book.

Never had that happen before: I like ALL the knitting patterns

If you want to knit for kids, from toddler to elementary school age, this book has treasures galore. I usually find about a third of a knitting book appeals to me; in this case, I liked something about EVERY pattern. There is so much to choose from here. For one thing, the book uses novelty yarns, those wonderful, wacky yarns you long to try, but of course as it's kids' knits, you don't need to go broke buying 20 balls of fluffy fringe yarn. You can use a few balls as ornaments. There was a spring green vest with ribbon-ornamented green yarn, like tags of paper that was so cute. Some dresses and vests are also trimmed with fur yarn. So if you comb the sale bins, you will be finding patterns here to use up your interesting stash. There are also plain patterns that really look great; two boys' soccer sweaters that are simple, but stylish. One is done in ragg yarn (tweed) with a red trim around shoulders and seams. Another is grey with yellow chest stripes and sleeves set into a yellow ribbed trimmed shoulder. Simple, but effective. There is also a pattern for a treasure-pocket vest, with simple lines and a cute pocket that you can use to ornament creatively. Suits boys or girls. Mostly, these patterns are for vests, hoodies and sweaters here; a few hats and scarves. If you knit for kids, I promise you, you will enjoy this lovely book.

Nifty Knits indeed!

If you're looking for unusual, easy knitting projects that will look cute on children and be fun for the knitter, I urge you to consider Nifty Knits for Kids. These designs will delight most knitters, and children will cheerfully wear them. They are cute, usable and useful. As soon as my copy of the book arrived, I sat down and looked at it page by page and had trouble deciding which of the more than 30 designs I wanted to knit first. I found the patterns fairly easy and think they can be made by relatively new knitters. Busy mothers and grandmothers will probably be happy to know that it shouldn't take a great deal of time or money to finish most of these projects, and that the yarn can easily be found. Another advantage is that a lot of these items can be worn more than one season instead of only in the winter. They are definitely "Fun Wearables for Kids on the Go".
