Nicola and the Viscount

The year is 1810 in the city of London. Sixteen-year-old orphan Nicola Sparks has just finished her schooling at a young lady's academy. She's ready for her first London Season and though other young girls would be searching for a husband, Nicola's not worried. She has already decided she will marry the young and handsome viscount, Lord Sebastian Bartholomew. She loves poetry, he loves poetry. And he seems to be as much in lover with her as she is with him. So Nicola feels everything is going well when Lord Sebastian proposes to her. That is, until Nathaniel Sheridan, Nicola's best friend's brother, questions the viscount's character and motivation in marrying her. Nicola is convinced though that Nathaniel is just making pointless accusations. But, what if Nathaniel is right, and Lord Sebastian has an ulterior motive for marrying her? It's up to Nicola is piece together the facts and find the truth, and to also search her heart to figure out who she really is in love with... The fifth book of the series, "Nicola and the Viscount" is an Avon True Romance for teenage girls. And even though this book is first and foremost a romance novel, there is plenty of intrigue, humor, and excitement to entertain a variety of teens.Nicola is a very interesting character, far from being perfect. I thought that Meg Cabot made Nicola's fascination and infatuation with the viscount very realistic. It's very often that many young woman mistake love with a physical attraction. Yes, Lord Sebastian was handsome but it was not until later on that Nicola truly poses the important questions. Besides his physical appearance, what dis she REALLY love about him? As we go through the book, we can see a change come through Nicola as she realizes that the truth is that she and the viscount had very little in common. Then there's Nathaniel who's such a tease and much like an annoying brother, but later on Nicola comes to realize that they just might be perfect for each other. The ending is so sweet and I assure you that you'll like it!If all the other Avon True Romance novels for teens are anything like "Nicola and the Viscount", I'm definitely picking up another in the series! So far, "Catherine and the Pirate" and "Victoria and the Rogue" are my favorites.

Best Book in the Avon True Romance Series

"Nicola and the Viscount" is the perfect romance because it's believable! None of this "She was so utterly and devastatingly gorgeous that men fell into states of dilerium after being blinded by her radiance...," junk that begins the cliche romances that litter bookstore shelves. I loved this book because the heroine is a real girl - she's not perfect. The things Nicola says are things me and my friends would say. For example, Nicola insists Lord Bartholemew (sp?) is everything that is wonderful and great... never mind that she's never really talked to him before! I mean, honestly, don't most girls have infatuations with some guy they really don't know, and they idolize this guy in hopes that what's inside the head looks as good as what's on the face... Nicola is a very lovable heroine!

A great historical romance

Sixteen-year-old Nicola Sparks, an orphan after her parents both drowned in an accident, is now finally ready for her first London Season. There is one thing that Nicola doesn't have to worry about though, and that is chosing a husband. After attracting the Viscount Lord Sebastian Bartholomew's attention at one of her school performances, she has been invited to his house, and Nicola gets her dream, he has proposed to her. Unfortunately, besides poetry, the two have little conversation, but Nicola is still very sure that this marriage was meant to happen, until the young infruiating Nathaniel Sheridan, the brother of Eleanor, Nicola's best friend, begins questioning why the Viscount truly wants to marry Nicola. Nicola is sure Nathaniel is just saying nonsense, until she begins to pick the pieces of the puzzle up by herself. Soon it isn't just a question of the Viscount's integrity, but who Nicola truly loves as well. This was another wonderful addition to the Avon True Romance series. Meg Cabot has always been a wonderful romance writer for teens and adults and this book is no exception.

An Excellent Book

It's the year 1810, and Nicola Sparks, has just graduated from Madame Vieuxvincent's. She's now moving in with the Bartholomew's to get ready for her first London Season. The Bartholomew's are awfully kind to her, and Nicola is in love with the God (aka Lord Sebastian Bartholomew), though he doesn't know it, at least that's what Nicola thinks. But suddenly she is engaged to the God, and planning their wedding. Until she discovers that he doesn't really love her, he just wants to get her to sell Beckwell Abby, a home that her father left her. Soon she realizes she was wrong about who loved her, and soon finds herself falling for someone else. Someone she's known for a very long time.Meg Cabot has another hit with "Nicola and the Viscount." Her characters are strong and original, and the main plot mixes both mystery and romance into one. A must have for all fans of Meg Cabot, romance, or mystery.

A wonderful new book from the Avon True Romance series.

It's 1810, and sixteen-year-old orphan Nicola Sparks has just finished her schooling at a young ladies' academy. Now she's ready for her first London season. In fact, she's already picked the young man she hopes will ask her to marry him: Lord Sebastian Bartholomew, a viscount who will inherit his father's title of earl. Nicola is invited to stay with the Bartholomews, and eagerly accepts the invitation. And it seems like a dream come true when Lord Sebastian proposes marriage. But Nathaniel Sheridan, the infuriating older brother of Nicola's best friend, Eleanor, causes Nicola to question Lord Sebastian's true motives in asking her to marry him. Soon Nicola begins to wonder if it's really Lord Sebastian she loves, and not someone she's been overlooking all along. I highly recommend this new book from the Avon True Romance series. Meg Cabot is a wonderful author of contemporary and supernatural stories for teens, and I'm happy to say she's just as good at writing a historical romance for young adults.
