The title of this book captures the author's feelings about rape prior to her own rape in 1979. While potting plants in her home with her two year old daughter sleeping nearby, Botkin-Maher was raped by an intruder. She uses her own horrifying story to teach us that any woman is vulnerable. Botkin-Maher tells of her recovery from rape, integrating her story with a discussion on myths about rape, what to do if raped, how to assist a rape survivor and much more. She takes note of her episodes of random rage as well as her greater awareness of danger which resulted from the rape. The author doesn't sugarcoat the long and difficult recovery; she encourages space for healing through meditation, group support, professional counseling, expression and trust of feelings, dependence on God and witnessing God's healing in others. Included are meditation and group exercises for the survivor that are adaptable for anyone wanting to help a rape victim. Rape is a rare topic among Christians. I heartily recommend this book for its courage and honesty. (This review was previously published in "Daughters of Sarah" Sept/Oct 1987.)
