Ni a No More is driven by a serendipitous and powerful passion between a Peruvian painter born Sonya Anchay Carrera from the edge of its jungle in Pucallpa and an architect Michael Camilleri from Houston, Texas. Meeting in the burgeoning sprawl of its capital Lima just before the U.S. lost its innocence in 9/11, she struggles to bring Michael into the reality of the modern world in the early decades of the 21st century, but he proves to be too limited by his privileged position as an American. When Sonya consoles herself for the inevitable loss of the soulmate she has found by turning herself over to her other great passion - her love of reproducing the brilliant colors of her homeland near the Equator through her painting -that ultimately brings her commercial success as an artist in Paris. While this pursuit not only permits her to go on with her life, Michael has a harder time finding satisfaction without her through his subsidiary dream of making music. So, when he tries to recapture the past by scaling a sacred peak of the Andes in her homeland much later, he discovers that Sonya has always had a rival for her affections who has finally given her a greater emotional maturity than Michael had ever possessed, and the three of them happily descend the heights together to build the New City for the future that must be built.
