This book is one of Bob Jones' first. His writing about his own country is outstandingly honest and full of commonsense. If a reader were to understand New Zealand and its problems this would be a good place to start. This despite the issues changing in the late C20th.Many years later the author is still commentating on the New Zealand condition with the same honesty and wit and must rank as one of the greatest New Zealanders ever born. In what other country would a writer have the ability to topple governments single handedly as he did in 1984.This book must rank as an excellent introduction to the mind of, perhaps New Zealand's only genius.
