The New York and Harlem Railroad Company wanted to introduce a horse-drawn street carriage. Banker John Mason ordered John G. Stephenson to build the first Horse Car. The route opened on 26 November 1832 and ran from Fourth Avenue and Bowery north to the Harlem River. This route was later named the famous "Little Red Wagon". It became one of the world's most recognizable skylines.
